Kate Hsu Hagmann practices in the areas of commercial and civil litigation, with a focus on insurance coverage disputes.  With respect to her insurance practice, Kate has contributed to cases involving CGL policies, E & O policies, D & O Policies, marine policies, and certificates of reinsurance.  She also has experience in employment law, health care, real estate, and construction litigation.  Ms. Hagmann has represented clients in state and federal court, arbitration proceedings under the auspices of AAA, JAMS, and ARIAS, and administrative hearings.  She has written appellate briefs and argued before the Connecticut Appellate Court. 

Ms. Hagmann authored an article on the Americans with Disabilities Act, titled Much Ado About Nothing: Has the U.S. Supreme Court’s Sutton Decision Thwarted a Flood of Frivolous Litigation?  (Connecticut Law Review, Summer 2005).  She also assisted in the preparation of the chapter on Principal Exclusions (Coverage A) in the American Bar Association’s Reference Handbook on the Comprehensive General Liability Policy (2010).      

Ms. Hagmann received her B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1998, Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. with High Honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2005.  She was the Symposium Editor of the Connecticut Law Review and Treasurer of the Unemployment Action Center, which is a student-run organization that represents unemployment insurance claimants before the Connecticut Department of LaborHer academic awards include the University of Connecticut Law School Foundation Prize for Exceptional Achievement in Scholarship, the Aspen Law and Business Award for Excellence in the Study of Evidence, the Thomas F. Gallivan, Jr. Memorial Prize for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement in Property, and four CALI Excellence Awards for Class Performance.  Kate was a law clerk for the Honorable William J. Sullivan at the Connecticut Supreme Court, and she has practiced in the litigation and insurance coverage departments of two large East Coast law firms.      

Ms. Hagmann is admitted to practice in Connecticut in both State and Federal Court.  She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, New Haven County Bar Association, Connecticut Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and a volunteer with Lawyers for Children America.
